Do the poor get poorer?

I think that the poor do get poorer. In society I feel like the high upper class doesn't treat and can't relate to the poor working class. The poor working class work so hard and almost all day and they get paid so little. It is hard for them to save and hard for them to get help from the doctor or any new things. They can't afford insurance so when one person in the family gets sick or hurt it cost a lot of money. The biggest and saddest thin I have noticed in society is that the upper class don't treat the poor working class right. The poor working class does mostly everything for the upper class. They bring them their food, clean their dishes, and much more. Everyone should stop and think about how not everyone is in the same class as you are and be aware and nice to others because you never know what someone is going though.

Positive Deviance

Positive Deviance is an action out of the norm that is positive. For my positive Deviance action I went on my normal Starbucks run Sunday morning but this time is was kinda different. I payed for the person behind me. At first I was a little nervous wondeing what the check out lady was going to say when I said I wanted to pay for the woman behind me as well as my drink. When I got up there I explained what I was doing and she thought it was the best idea ever and told me one time she saw it last through 12 cars! I drove away kind of slow and made a close turn so I could see the womans reaction and she look so happy and waved to me. Positive Deviance is a great thing to have in our society. It could start a chain reaction through so many people and even move through more people that just witness a positive Deviance.

Does gender matter?

In my sociology class we have been talking the past couple days about gender. I have learned that ones gender does not relate to ones sex. For example we talked about how a boy playing with a girls toy makes the boy seem wrong and different but when the girl plays with a boys toy it's alright and she is just called a tomboy. I steped out of the box of society and looked around for this in my everyday life. A matter a fact it was happening in my own house. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers and one is older and not around much so it's just us 4 girls and my one little brother. There are so many girls toys just laying around the house and toys that we play with all the time. My brothers friend came over to play the other day and my brother asked if he wanted to play with the Dora and Diego house that was my sisters. My brothers friend said "no I'm not a girl!" I felt bad for my brother because he liked playing with the house with my sisters. The other boy I could tell was raised up in a home where it is not ok to play with the opposite genders toys. I beleive that anybody could dress or play with whatever they want to.

culture

American culture is not like other culture because we have a lot of stuff and big things. This past week we watched a video of Opra and how she went to Denmark the "happiest place in the world." They all seamed pretty happy with what they had even though it was not a lot. They had a super clean white house. nothing laying around. Then Opra said to go home an look at what we had just laying around our sink. One can tell a lot about a person's culture from what they have one their sink. So I went home and looked. On my sink i have a tooth brush holder with 3 tooth brushes. I don't need three but i have 3 anyways. then there is a tall despencer of cheery-plalmagrante soap. I also have a basket that holds my hair dryer,  clips, pins, head bands, and random little things. I don't need all of that, it is just random clutter. The last thing i have on my sink is an ihome. This is for when im getting ready i can leasten to music. I dont have to have this ihome. It is showing that i just want to be "plugged in" and not want to talk to anybody. Other contries dont have the kind of stuff we do on a bathroom sink. We should take it for granted.

A day in China

There was a time in my life when I went to China town in the city and I felt out of my element. The materal culture was a lot different because they all had on different clothes. They had bright colors and dresses, while I was in my jeans and a hoodie. Also what we ate was alot differt they had truttles in a big tank that they killed and ate. Also they had duck hanging upside down that they killed and were for sale. It was a different and uncomfortable feeling if one didn't adjust to the culture.

Freeks and Geeks

This week in class we watched freaks and geeks. It is an older tv show that wasn't so popular in it's time but it is more relevant today. There was symbolic interactionism by her army coat. She put it on to change who she was and wanted to be someone els and fit into a new group but then at the end she took it off and danced and became herself again. There was also symbolic interactionism with "girl" the guys would say suck it up and not be a girl. Or say stop acting like a girl. In the show they unforced that girls were week and couldn't vogue for themselves. It really showed me to say things as Reynard and not to try and describe them with something els.

Our time

Our generation is made to what it is because of technology, media, and 9/11. I think that this are the main three because we have so much technology to do things for us that we will never know how to do things they knew how to do in the past. Also media has an effect because we watch it and just beleave it. We watch reality tv andwant our lives to be like theirs. The last is 9/11 because after that we as a society are scarred of another attack and worried about people. For example we look at someone of a different race or clothing choice and we judge them and think they are bad. We need to focus on things that are relevant.
