There was a time in my life when I went to China town in the city and I felt out of my element. The materal culture was a lot different because they all had on different clothes. They had bright colors and dresses, while I was in my jeans and a hoodie. Also what we ate was alot differt they had truttles in a big tank that they killed and ate. Also they had duck hanging upside down that they killed and were for sale. It was a different and uncomfortable feeling if one didn't adjust to the culture.
I have never been to china town, and i dont know if I ever will. I dont know how i would react to a dead duck hanging ther, i can barely stand any animal on the side of the street that is there by accident. Thats just not something were used to, but they are. My dad has tried duck though and he said it was good. Adjusting to new cultures is something no one is used to, but something we might have to all start doing in order to cooperate with other cultures.
ReplyDeleteI think its good to constantly be having new experiences like yours in ones life in order to open your mind to different cultures and ways of life. To see things from diferent perspectives like how others prepare food or dress is a good experience for anybody because it enhances your understanding of others and how to adjust to a foreign environment to get the maximum benefit out of your trip or whatever your mission is.
ReplyDeleteYeah, its tough, being a chinese and japonese, it is common to have truttals. On another hand i also felt occwered when i went to greek resteront .
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate but after a few visits you start to familiarize yourself and start to fit in. China town in chicago is quite a sight but i recommend you go and see the china town in san fransisco and new york there really cool as well and you should go if you get the chance.
